ABOUT

Marriage and Family Therapy is a distinctive field of professionals trained to assess and treat mental and emotional disorders.  Utilizing our knowledge and understanding of the impact and influence of ones relationships on the self, we work with individuals, couples, and families to make lasting change.  As relational beings, we don't live in a bubble and can't expect that "problems" develop alone...but rather in the context of relationships with others.  Together, we can learn the ways to develop a better understanding of who you are, set personal goals, and work toward desired change you want for yourself and your relationships.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Social Psychology from Park University in 2004 while serving in the U.S. Air Force (1999–2004). After completing my service, I earned a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas (2006). I was previously licensed in Texas as both a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate before relocating to Dayton, Ohio, in 2011.

I’m currently licensed in Ohio as an Independent Marriage and Family Therapist (F.1800082) and am a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).

Over the past 18+ years, I’ve worked with individuals, couples, and families across a wide range of backgrounds—military families, children and youth in schools, adults navigating transitions, and older adults adjusting to later life changes.

My Approach

I’m passionate about helping couples build stronger, more connected relationships. Most of my practice focuses on marriage and couples counseling—from premarital work and early relationship challenges to rebuilding trust and deepening connection in long-term marriages.

I’ve completed Level 3 Training in the Gottman Method and regularly use this research-based approach in my work. Couples I work with can complete the Enhanced Gottman Relationship Checkup, a comprehensive online assessment that explores friendship, intimacy, conflict, trust, and shared meaning.

My wife Jennifer and I are also trained educators for the Gottman Institute’s “Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work” and “Bringing Baby Home” workshops.

Service and Leadership

I served on the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board from 2015 to 2017, including one year as Chair of the Marriage and Family Therapy Professional Standards Committee. That experience reinforced my commitment to ethical practice and to protecting the public through professional standards and accountability.

Personal

Jennifer and I have been married for 19 years and have four wonderful children who keep life full and interesting.
